Pick n Pay’s moments of magic for festive tables

PICK N PAY has unveiled its 2023 Christmas range, which is now in stores. The products focus on incredible flavours and ingredients, with convenience, to emphasise how easy it is for customers to create moments of magic centred around good food and drinks this festive season.

In a dazzling event hosted at a rooftop in Cape Town, guests were welcomed by a giant advent calendar with some of Pick n Pay’s popular drinks behind the doors, as well as a champagne experience with Ernest Rapeneau – new and exclusive to Pick n Pay – both of which set the tone for a night of culinary delights and festive discoveries.

Guests were treated to a sensory feast as they explored interactive food stations, from grilled salmon on Japanese grills to various food stalls showcasing everything from fresh produce to seafood. Open fires sizzled as they cooked delectable cuts of popular Christmas meat, such as the award-winning Santa’s Village Cooked Rolled Pork Belly and the Crafted Collection Bone-In Gammon. A large harvest table with the widest cheeses and charcuterie selections, with accompanying terrines, pates and dips, showed how easy it is to entertain guests these holidays.

A live cook-along demo by Masterchef SA winner Shawn Godfrey added a touch of culinary magic, guiding guests through creating an Al Fresco Christmas harvest board. Guests prepared brandy and cherry glazed gammon on the fire, gammon sausage and peach skewers with a side of grilled asparagus and broccolini, all within an hour.

Pebble the Penguin, Pick n Pay’s lovable Christmas mascot, took centre stage with products designed to delight younger customers, including festive candy and fun holiday baking kits. The event also showcased the popular Pick n Pay Crafted Collection range of iced teas and cordials.

Pick n Pay Clothing showcased its affordable Christmas red and white “sleigh” and Grinch pyjama sets for the whole family, launching in stores soon. There is also a Grinch Christmas t-shirt range for everyday wear.

The festive spirit continued with a finale featuring local eggnog and Amarula coffees from the Roastery Coffee Bar, a familiar sight in Pick n Pay stores nationwide.

With more than 135 new private label products launched for Christmas, Pick n Pay’s Santa’s Village products promise an all-encompassing festive experience, spanning fresh groceries to gifting ideas. Its Crafted Collection range has been personalised for Christmas to offer premium products crafted with the finest ingredients and flavours, perfect for gifting or self-indulgence.

As Pick n Pay continues its tradition of product innovation, the 2023 Christmas range aims to make the holiday season easy and hassle-free, ensuring customers can effortlessly create magical culinary moments.

“Customers will find the most flavourful, high-quality products from local producers on our shelves this Christmas. No matter how big or small they want to celebrate, or how much time they want to invest in the kitchen, our Christmas range will help them serve something extraordinary and memorable,” says Nicki Russell, Head of Product and Quality: Pick n Pay. Products in the range have already scooped up accolades in tasting panels; the retailer clinched an impressive total of 12 awards, including five Best Buys, in the FAIRLADY Test House 2023 festive edition.

Every year, FAIRLADY hosts a panel that rates a selection of meat cuts, vegan dishes and sweet treats to help guide a festive season spread for South Africans. Five Pick n Pay products collected Best Buy titles: namely the Crafted Collection’s Luxury Brandy Christmas Pudding, Bone-in Gammon and Gammon Sausages, as well as Santa’s Village Beef Festive Favourite and Cooked Rolled Pork Belly.
