RUDOLF van der Berg from Burgundy Restaurant in Hermanus and Kloovenburg’s Pieter du Toit have decided to host a special event to celebrate the extra holiday on December 15 that was given to SA by our president after the 2023 World Cup Rugby win. The event is titled the Man of the Match, also because Pieter du Toit’s son, Pieter Steph du Toit, was named Man of the Match in the RWC final.
Rudolf says: “As a busy restaurant we don’t often get the time to do wine evenings, and as a chef, one needs to stimulate your creativity every once in a while. The small food tastings paired with the wines have been carefully created to give the patrons a good idea of what the wines are all about. It is also such a privilege to host the event with the Du Toits, who have supported me for many years from my days at Savannah Café right through to Burgundy. We are proud hosts of their olive oil on the tables at the restaurant. The cherry on top is to host the event with my brother Christof, who will be performing four of his greatest songs.”
The evening will consist of:
- 5 wines, paired with delicious snacks
- A mini concert by Christof Berg
- A short talk on Kloovenburg wine farm
Christof Berg grew up on Witkraal, a salt-farm in the Free State. He has performed in more than 40 countries worldwide, gaining fans over all the globe. He is currently back on the farm to work on a full-length album that will be released in 2024. The first single off the new album, Wil jy sien hoe lyk die hemel, was released in November.
