Marc Lottering show from stage to screen to light up kykNET&kieĀ

WHETHER heā€™s behind the microphone doing stand-up or as Aunty Merle in one of his musicals, Marc Lottering always has audiences roaring with laughter.Ā In 2023, his latest stand-up comedy show, So I Wrote That Musical, made its debut in Cape Town. It was also seen in Johannesburg and Durban and then returned to Cape Town for another run, and with each packed show, the audiences wanted more.Ā

The good news for anyone who missed it, is that So I Wrote That Musical was recorded, and you can take a front-row seat in your own living room when kykNET&kie (DStv 145) becomes the first to broadcast the hit show on 31 March at 8pm. The running time is 80 minutes.

ā€œIā€™m very happy to be back in peopleā€™s homes,ā€ says Marc. ā€œItā€™s been too long.ā€Ā

In So I Wrote That Musical Marc reflects on the challenges of moving between the worlds of stand-up comedy and musical theatre. And as is to be expected, he weaves in his sharp satirical views on the madness of contemporary South African life.

ā€œHe takes you to dark places but switches a light on for you. Or he leaves the porch light on in case you are feeling lost,ā€ Laetitia Pople, arts and entertainment editor of Netwerk 24, wrote in her review.Ā

ā€œI love Marc Lottering. I love him so much. I would watch him read the classifieds, and I would laugh. And his new show is just the cutest, funniest, whackiest, most charming hour and a half of the best kind of laughing there is,ā€ said Megan Choritz on Weekend Special.

ā€œSo I Wrote That MusicalĀ is a master class in long-form stand-up/observational comedy,ā€ was the verdict of Robyn Cohen (The Cape Robyn).Ā

ā€œTrying to direct Marc is always a hair-raising experience,ā€ says Anwar McKay, director of So I Wrote That Musical.Ā ā€œBut I think we managed to come up with something fabulous.Ā  Enjoy!ā€
