With song and dance, Awakening! brings socially distanced theatre

AFTER the success of their last production Encore! at the end of 2019, the students of the Luitingh Alexander Musical Theatre Academy (LAMTA) have, like the rest of the world, had to confront a national lockdown and other restrictions imposed by the Coronavirus, bringing to a halt their studio classes and student life at LAMTA.

With enormous courage, grit and through the help of devoted lecturers, they have soared through both an online teaching term and a hybrid teaching term and now, after a number of weeks of hard work in their studios, the students are thrilled to finally have the opportunity to perform live with their exciting new production.

AWAKENING! takes you on a journey through the crazy ups and downs of the past eight months as the world turned upside down. Depicted through song and dance, this new socially distanced theatre experience will leave you reflecting on the past and celebrating the future. The show boasts a diverse selection of musical theatre numbers mixed with popular music hits that will entertain audiences of all ages and leave them wanting more. With new choreography by Hope Maimane, Ashley Searle, Grant van Ster, Shaun Oelf and Duane Alexander, and musical direction by Anton Luitingh, this production is a must see and an opportunity to reawaken your love for live theatre after months of isolation.

A safe and live theatre experience is shared with you at the Theatre on Bay with Covid safety protocols in place, and social distanced seating as per government capacity regulations. The number of audience members per performance is restricted, the venue is sanitised, and health checks will be done upon entrance to the theatre.

Tickets are R150 per person.

Performances:
