SELF-ESTEEM is the first solo exhibition of works by Ramadhan Hamis, a spectacularly talented artist from Tanzania who is known for his hyper-realistic drawings of people. Join KnexT Space and Eastside Cartel for the KnexT Art Gallery’s first exhibition of the year on February 7, as part of First Thursdays Cape Town.
This passionate artist has been working exclusively with KnexT Art Gallery, who hold his portfolio of artworks. Hamis currently lives and works in Nairobi, Kenya. With a conceptual approach, he seduces the viewer into a world of ongoing equilibrium and the interval that articulates the stream of daily events.
Hamis’s drawings are distinguishable through his use of graphite, charcoal and pastel to radiate a cold and latent violence: at times, disconcerting beauty emerges. His art aims at depicting the inner soul and deep feeling in humanity that is not easily expressed using words. The drawings directly respond to the surrounding environment and Hamis uses everyday experiences as a starting point. Often these are instances that would go unnoticed.
On Thursday, February 7, 2019 you can meet the artist at the exhibition, and view his extraordinary work. Beverages will be supplied by Stone Circle Brewery and BOOCH. Entrance is free and doors open from 6pm to 10pm at 115 Harrington street, Gardens. Keep an eye on this event for exciting updates and announcements.
You can win a stunning pair of sunnies from Pedro’s Bitchin’ Eyewear worth R600. To enter, like Eat Play Drink Cape Town and KnexT Art Gallery on Facebook. Click attending in the Facebook event (link above) and tag two friends. The winner will be announced on the morning of the event.
