Organic vegan grocer, Based on Plant, opens in Plumstead

ORGANIC, vegan, gluten-free grocer Based On Plant has opened in Plumstead’s Village Square, offering healthy products – from fresh produce and home baked breads to deli products, homeware and frozen meals – in a carefully curated store.

An interior and graphic designer by trade, and responsible for the interiors of the very first Float Zero store in Cape Town, creative couple Keagan Harris and Angelique Byleveldt have built their dream retail shop. Their bespoke interiors mean the store is an artistically and mindfully created space filled with products from popular brands such as Wildsprout, Naked Leaf, Funky Ouma and award-winning coffee brand Dark Knight. It also supports small businesses in the Western Cape with organic products sourced from as far as the Klein Karoo.

Based On Plant hopes to take the stress out of shopping with dietary restrictions in mind, so products in the store will be clearly labelled.

Not just another vegan grocer, the inspiration behind Based On Plant is a holistic approach to wellness. Alongside an increase in public interest in plant-based lifestyles and diets, with people becoming more aware of what they put into their bodies, Based On Plant’s philosophy mirrors the adage: “Let food be thy medicine”. As Angelique has a certificate in vegan nutrition, Based On Plant also offers free wellness consultations on plant-based diets.
