This is what weekends at Nederburg are made of

IS there anything more quintessentially South African than a braai? Those in the know will tell you that it’s a way of life here in SA. It’s certainly not just about throwing some meat on the fire and hoping for the best, but rather a special ritual that centres around the joyful preparation and sharing of a tasty meal (usually involving some form of grilled meat) while spending time with family and friends, telling stories, discussing all and sundry, as well as remembering and knowing who we are and what we’re made of as South Africans.

The team at Nederburg’s The Manor in Paarl is dusting off their braai equipment and invite you to come and celebrate all things braai with them over the next couple of weekends. The fires will be lit from 12pm (until 2.30pm) on Saturday, September 18, and every weekend thereafter (depending on weather), including the Friday of the Heritage Day long weekend spanning September 24 to 26, up until the weekend of October 9 and 10.

BRAAI MENU

The Crowd Pleaser – R25: Boerie roll, with your favourite sauce, tomato and onion smoor, or caramelised onions.

The Free State Vegetarian – R125: Grilled chicken and bell pepper kebab, boerewors, garlic and herb butter roll, salty potato fries, and a chef’s garden salad.

The Full House – R165: A-grade sliced beef rump, spiced Karoo lamb chop, grilled chicken & bell pepper kebab, boerewors, garlic and herb butter roll, salty potato fries, and a chef’s garden salad.

The Manor sources its meat from Deli-Co Farmstyle Butchery in Riebeek Kasteel, so rest assured that it will be serving you the very best in ethically-sourced meat.

A wide range of Nederburg’s award-winning wines, including its popular Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 (a great match with a braai), and a selection of ciders, beers and soft drinks will be served from a bar set up on the lawn outside the historic manor house. There’ll be live music o set a laid-back mood and get you swaying to some sweet tunes.
