Have your own cheese festival at home

by Press Release 22 Apr 2020
by Press Release 22 Apr 2020

WITH cheese, no day – or even days of lockdown – can ever be too blue! That’s why the South African Cheese Festival invites all festival friends to join it over the Freedom Day long weekend from Saturday, April 25 to Monday, April 27 for a free virtual #homebound #SACheeseFest on its Facebook page.

On the daily programme from 10am till 6pm there will be competitions, food demos (11am) and home concerts (4pm) with well-known artists such as Sunset Sweatshop, Danie du Toit of Spoegwolf, and Jimm Harisson Project. Festival friends are encouraged to post a #SACheeseFest #festivalfriends photo of a previous festival (like the one featured above) for a chance to win 20 tickets to next year’s 20th SA Cheese Festival, as well as 20 cheeses and a night’s stay for four festival friends at Hawksmoor House.

Guests can look forward to a Chenin Blanc and cheese pairing on Saturday by Alvi and Junel van der Merwe of Alvi’s Drift while cheese lovers can join a #cheeseboard #challenge on Sunday with well-known celebrity chefs Jenny Morris and Pete Goffe-Wood. Drummer chef Moskou du Toit (of Spoegwolf and Drum Restaurant fame) will make a #BotterVuur appearance on Freedom Day, dubbed #lightyellowMonday. On this day there will also be a special #lightyellow performance by musician Amy Jones at 10am, a visit to Kasselshoop Cheese outside Stilbaai at 2pm, and a chance to win cheese and festival tickets for the best yellow #stayhome outfits!
