Cape Town’s Foreshore gets a nudge and a WINK Café

by Press Release 22 Dec 2020
by Press Release 22 Dec 2020

WHILE the hospitality sector has been hard hit by Covid and the subsequent lockdowns, it is encouraging to see evidence of a reboot with the re-opening of old favourites and the launch of some interesting and new locations to eat, sleep and sip at.

WINK Café, a trendy, new eatery located in the financial district on the Foreshore at WINK Aparthotel, opened its doors in December 2020. Stylishly decorated and equipped with high-speed WiFi, WINK Café presents a cool, convenient space to have a zoom meeting over lunch, catch up with friends or grab something delicious to go if you’re in a hurry.  WINK Café is open daily from 7a, till 3pm, serving those much-needed morning coffees, healthy lunches and decadent, sweet treats.  The aparthotel and Café have also gone to great lengths to ensure all Covid health and hygiene protocols are adhered to.

Lauren Barnard, general manager at WINK Aparthotels, says it wanted to create its own branded offering as an add-on for guests and locals to enjoy that echoes the fresh and contemporary facilities that WINK Aparthotel offers. Plans are underway to open additional WINK Cafés at the various developments under the Flyt Property Investment portfolio which some might say is a daring move considering the timing, but Barnard is confident this is indeed the right time where South Africans are supporting local more than ever, and that tourism will kick in again soon and bring even more visitors from across our borders.

WINK Café, at WINK Eaton Square in Diep River, opened its doors in November 2020 and is proving to be a popular spot for the locals, tenants and visitors to the area. Construction of WINK Café at Quivertree, a new mixed-use development in Stellenbosch, is also underway and will be opening in 2021 for residents to enjoy.  As a company that is committed to job creation in South Africa, the cafés has already secured 10 new positions with an estimated 20 additional posts opening up.

Not only are the employees a part of building a modern brand that offers visitors an inclusive and enjoyable experience, but they, along with the team at WINK, are also contributing in a positive way to the hospitality and tourism sectors.
