Purchase Haute Cabrière’s Special Release Chardonnay Pinot Noir with a purpose

PARTNERING with Together Franschhoek, Haute Cabrière brings friends and fans a new “Purchase with Purpose” opportunity to support Covid-19 disaster relief within the Franschhoek Valley.

Together Franschhoek is founded on the philosophy “by the community, for the community” and, as part of that community for generations, Haute Cabrière is thrilled to announce the Special Release Chardonnay Pinot Noir with proceeds going to this vital initiative.

“Haute Cabrière was the first winery in Franschhoek to really put the valley on the map. This kind of collaboration is how Together Franschhoek was born – the community working together to look after each other. Haute Cabrière’s generosity in this incredible donation of the profits of this wine will make a difference in countless lives,” says Susan Huxter, a long-time resident of Franschhoek and ambassador for Together Franschhoek.

Franschhoek has been shaped by global influences since the Huguenots first arrived in the 1600s. Centuries later, with the rise of global communities, international travel and interwoven industries, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has quickly spread throughout the world.

Tucked away in in the winelands of South Africa, Franschhoek has profoundly felt the impact of the pandemic being a tourism destination, the culinary capital of South Africa, and an acclaimed wine route. These three industries rely on travel, guests, and wine sales, and provide 80% of the employment opportunities in the valley. The sudden halt in their operations has therefore dealt a severe blow to the community.

Founded on one of the oldest farms in the region, dating back to 1694, Haute Cabrière has roots that extend deep into the soils of Franschhoek. The Von Arnim family of Haute Cabrière established an education centre in 2010 to support learners within the farm community. At the beginning of the South African lockdown in March, the farm opened up the vegetable gardens to Together Franschhoek, and Haute Cabrière is joining forces with them once again to support food relief efforts  in the valley to combat the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic with this Special Release to “Purchase with Purpose”.

Known for pioneering blends, Haute Cabrière was the first winery to create a Chardonnay and Pinot Noir still wine blend. This wine quickly rose in popularity among South Africans, and having had sensational support over the decades, it is still a sought-after addition to any table.

Nick van Woerkom joined Haute Cabrière on 1 June 2020 as the new managing director and says, “During these challenging times, it is only fitting to offer the Special Release Chardonnay Pinot Noir to support the Franschhoek community and our fellow South Africans who have supported this wine and our winery for generations. I am honoured to be a part of this community now, and to be able to offer our support.”

The Haute Cabrière Special Release Chardonnay Pinot Noir is available only from the cellar door and website at a special reduced price of R60 per bottle (while stocks last), profits of which are donated to Together Franschhoek. With 9 000 bottles committed by Haute Cabrière, the financial contribution to Together Franschhoek stands to be R180 000.

Collections and purchases from the cellar door available Mondays – Thursdays, 9am – 5pm as per regulations.
