JANE AUSTEN fans begged for it – and in May 2022 Sanditon will be making a return visit to our screens, new and exclusive to BritBox.

The acclaimed and hugely popular period drama, based on Austen’s final, unfinished novel, proved such a hit that it was renewed for two more seasons, with season two debuting on 12 May 2022 on BritBox South Africa as a BritBox Original.

Described as “lush and fun” by the New York Times and as “sexy escapism” by IndieWire, the first-season finale of Sanditon left fans in suspense and clamouring for more.

Now, those who have fallen hard for the charms of Charlotte Heywood (Rose Williams, Curfew) will be thrilled to see their high-spirited, independent-minded heroine return to the seaside resort that’s on the cusp of dramatic change. Joining Charlotte this season is her starry-eyed younger sister Alison (Rosie Graham, Outlander).

The second season of continues to follow the lives and loves of the town’s inhabitants, with romance, humour and plenty of plot twists and turns. It picks up nine months after the events of season one, with Charlotte attracting the attention of not one, but two new suitors.

While Theo James bowed out as Sidney Parker, in his place are a number of new, eligible bachelors. Meet Colonel Francis Lennox (Tom Weston-Jones, Grace), the wealthy but reclusive Alexander Colbourne (Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Industry) and the enigmatic artist Charles Lockhart (Alexander Vlahos, Versailles).

Against the backdrop of beautiful coastal vistas, further adventures also lie in store for rebellious Miss Georgiana Lambe (Crystal Clarke, Ordeal by Innocence), who is keen to forge her own path in life. We also see the return of other familiar faces such as Lady Denham (Anne Reid, Years and Years), Tom Parker (Kris Marshall, Death in Paradise) and Mary Parker (Kate Ashfield, A Confession).
