WHAT do a dominee, dog breeder, chartered accountant and former air hostess have in common? These are some of the careers of the 20 competitors from across the country – from Aggeneys, Cradock, Oudtshoorn, Wellington, Stilbaai and Malmesbury – who will put their fire skills to the test DStv’s latest food reality show Kokkedoor Vuur & Vlam.
This series, filmed in the picturesque coastal town of Stilbaai in the Overberg, begins on Thursday 27 July at 8pm on kykNET (channel 144) in the place of Die real housewives van die wynlande.
Viewers joined the Kokkedoor table for the first time in 2013. Over the following years, more family members of the series (Koekedoor, Kokkedoortjie and Koekedoortjie) provided hours of flavoursome entertainment for the entire family. Now Kokkedoor Vuur & Vlam will be setting a new challenge for viewers to see onthoubraaiers and kinkelbraaiers’in action competing for the ultimate award: being crowned as the Kokkedoor Vuur & Vlam champion.
- An onthoubraaier is a person passionate about traditional dishes but does not have formal chef training or professional experience. They have been selected for their skill as a home cook and their knowledge of dishes from days gone by.
- Kinkelbraaiers are being selected for their qualifications and/or experience in a recognised restaurant or professional kitchen.
The judges of the show are award-winning chef Bertus Basson and braai expert Kobus Botha, while several food and product specialists, as well as well-known personalities, will make appearance too. Behind the scenes award-winning food writer and Eat Out judge Herman Lensing is the food producer of Kokkedoor Vuur & Vlam, which is produced by Homebrew Films for kykNET.
