Music of the Dosini Clan & JS Bach at St George’S Cathedral

UNPLUGGED CONCERTS invites you to a special evening of music on Friday 11 September to introduce the 2027 St George’s Unplugged season returning from January to April next year.

St George’s Cathedral is one of our most important cultural and heritage sites, and St George’s Unplugged is a series of regular live classical lunch-concerts, held every Tuesday and Thursday from 1.15pm to 2pm over the summer season to bring classical music to the heart of the city and connect people to the vibrant music scene taking place throughout the year. Entrance is free as the Cathedral is open to all, but donations are welcome at the door to contribute to the running costs of the Cathedral and the series.

To introduce the next series and to help fundraise for the Artists Fund (so the series can remain free for all) this special evening concert featuring two iconic South African musicians. Dizu Plaatjies — celebrated South African traditional musician, founder of Amapondo and leader of Ibuyambo brings the music from his Dosini clan dating back to the era of Johann Sebastian Bach which will be performed by renowned German based viola/violinist and vocalist Gareth Lubbe, bringing African musical heritage together with European classical tradition in a unique setting.
