Celebrate all things British this coronation month

JOIN the Milnerton Players on their light-hearted musical journey around the British Isles with Strictly British, a modern-day music hall revue, from 6 to 21 May.

It’s nostalgia with a capital N – memories are made with music and you’ll be reliving some very precious ones.  Conceived and directed by well-known Cape Town theatre personality Kyla Thorburn, 12 talented performers will give it their all under the musical direction by Barend Van der Westhuizen (who also performs) and choreography by Shayni Pappin-Davidson. From Lloyd Webber to Ed Sheeran, the Beatles to One Direction – and everything in between – this is a show that will appeal to everyone. Expect a taste of British food, movies, characters, culture and more as the live band creates the atmosphere and the cast belt it out.

On 6 May, Coronation day launches with a special British edition of the Milnerton Essential Market from 10am on the lawns at the playhouse. British food and goodies will be up for grabs. At midday, the coronation of King Charles III will be streamed live in the Milnerton Playhouse auditorium (tickets at the door, R40). At 8pm the day will culminate in a spectacular gala opening night of Strictly British. It’s glitz and glamour all the way for this performance and patrons are encouraged to dress the part – not quite a Royal Command but an opportunity to dress royally.

Special event tickets for R250 include the coronation screening and the  show at 8pm. Participation packs, with loads of British goodies, are R40 on Quicket and R50 at the door. Thereafter evening performances will take place from Thursdays to Saturdays (R150) at 8pm with matinees at 2pm on Saturdays and Sundays (R140) plus an additional Wednesday evening performance on 17 May. Bookings here, or Quicket.
