The once-off performance that celebrates the centenary of Puccini’s death will see audiences captivated by the extraordinary artistry and passion of Cape Town Opera, Africa’s only established opera company that celebrates its 25th year anniversary in 2024. As a recipient of numerous accolades, Cape Town Opera is a torchbearer for excellence, inclusivity and employment within the theatre and arts industry in South Africa. The world  of opera is synonymous with emotions and drama, a performance genre where breathtaking vocal prowess reigns supreme.  Audiences will be transported by extracts from La Bohème, Madama Butterfly, Tosca, Gianni Schicchi and Turandot. Says artistic director Magdalene Minnaar, “We relish the opportunity to perform in Maynardville’s magical outdoor setting and look forward to starting off our year with this beautiful open air concert.”

A highly anticipated fixture on Cape Town’s cultural calendar, the Maynardville Open Air Festival season has long been a summer highlight. In recent years the lineup has expanded wonderfully too, blending traditional Shakespeare plays with classical concerts across the genres.
