TWENTY years ago, a group of animal lovers planted the seed of concern for the welfare of donkeys in need, leading to substantial advancements in the status of these long-suffering creatures. Today, Eseltjiesrus Donkey Sanctuary, near McGregor, is a significant player in providing care for donkeys facing distress, serious injuries or simply the challenges of old age. The Sanctuary also offers workshops for individuals involved in donkey welfare throughout South Africa, all of which are approved by the South African Veterinary Council.
On Sunday, September 14 at 3pm, 20 years of progress in the welfare of donkeys will be celebrated in a unique way. The renowned 55-member Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra will present a vibrant programme titled Music for Everyone at the Oos-Kerk in Robertson.

Tickets (R180 for adults and R90 for students) are available at the Tourism Offices in Montagu, Robertson, and McGregor. In Worcester, tickets are available at the Durban Street Animal Clinic (Dr Gerhard de Wet). Additionally, tickets can be purchased online. All proceeds go to Eseltjiesrus.
Unable to attend? A kind contribution towards sponsored tickets would be greatly appreciated. This support will make a significant difference for many who would otherwise not be able to enjoy this remarkable event, providing tickets to orphanages, nursing homes, local orchestras, blind persons, choirs and music students.
Buying tickets or contributing towards sponsored tickets is easy: email adopt@donkeysanctuary.co.za and the sanctuary will do the rest. For enquiries call Johan at 083 429 3217.
Visitors are welcome at Eseltjiesrusfrom Thursdays to Sundays 10am to 4pm. More info here.
