Animal antics in Paarl

by Press Release 8 May 2020
by Press Release 8 May 2020

DESPITE the national lockdown animal lovers can continue to enjoy various encounters in Paarl, although they are of a virtual nature. Due to government regulations, these destinations are currently closed and need public support until they can reopen.

Visit Paarl (Paarl Wine and Tourism) has decided to show its support by adopting a baby alpaca. Mom Barbie recently gave birth to the adorable little Rona and the tourism staff can’t wait to visit in person. Mother Nature is not standing still and they are actually welcoming new cuddly crias (babies) as it is the middle of their autumn birthing season at The Alpaca Loom – Coffee Shop and Weaving Studio. It has been breeding alpacas since 2004 and is now home to more than 300 animals.

Barbie and Rona

The Alpaca Loom has created an online shop, where you can contribute to the upkeep of the herd by donating a bale or two of hay. As no visitors are currently allowed at the farm, it means no income to feed the growing herd. There are also three different packages available to adopt one of these furry friends. Adoptive parents can name them and visit them during a barn tour once travel restrictions are listed. Regular Facebook updates are also done on their progress. Click here for donations or adoption procedures.

Even our reptiles can use support. Don’t miss out on Le Bonheur and Reptile Garden’s epic Africa’s Deadliest Reptile event on Saturday, May 16, 2020 as the popular reptile show goes live. Watch as experienced reptile handlers unveil myths and facts about some of Africa’s most dangerous reptiles – all while handling them during this 40-minute interactive, live-streamed show. Ticket holders qualify for entries to Le Bonheur and Reptile Garden after lockdown. Book now at info@lebonheuradventures.co.za.  You can also pre-book a reptile tour at Le Bonheur Reptile Adventures now and receive a 50% discount. Proceeds will go towards feeding and caring for the reptiles. Ticket holders qualify for a guided tour of the croc pond, entry to the snake centre and a snake feeding show after lockdown.

Butterfly World Animal Sanctuary is offering great discount prices for online vouchers, which can be redeemed after the lockdown. Vouchers will be valid for a year. Send a message on Facebook @The Animal Sanctuary on Route 44 to buy a voucher or make a donation via paypal or EFT to support its 25 year legacy. Alternatively, click here.

The Ashia cheetah sanctuary in Paarl will be launching a four-week free Instagram IGTV series on @ashiacheetahconservation with tours of the sanctuary to continue raising awareness of this conservation project to help protect Africa’s most endangered cat. Ashia is successfully returning captive-born cheetah into the protected wild of South African game reserves and national parks, while also providing a permanent home for cats that are unable to survive in the wild. Support Ashia’s conservation initiatives during these uncertain times through an adoption programme or by purchasing vouchers for various guest activities that can be used at a later stage. Contact enquiries@ashia.co.za for more information.
