Sample Simondium’s best red blends, with tapas, at Vrede en Lust

ON July 30 from 11am to 4pm, Vrede en Lust in Simondium will host Simonsberg Wine Assembly, an event which will showcase the grand red wines of the region. You will taste the region’s best wines from 10 prestigious award winning wineries which will showcase the excellent terroir.

There will be a focus on red blends which is a signature of this particular wine route: Simondium and the Wine Of Origin Simonsberg-Paarl. The area is a 10km stretch of some of the most loved estates positioned below the Simonsberg mountain, each with a specialised offering.

Simonsberg Wine Assembly will be a walk-around tasting with each winemaker presenting their wines from a table inside the venue, the historic cellar at Vrede en Lust. Each winery will bring a focal wine which is a red blend and paired with a unique tapas, as well as a few extra wines to showcase their brand alongside their hero wine. A tasting and a tapas pairing at each of the 10 stands is included in the ticket price. Extra food and wine from each farm will be available to purchase.

Each winemaker has collaborated with chefs Casper Zulch and Jerry Masakasa to create a perfect tapas pairing for their wines. Examples to look forward to include Grand Plaisir 2017 by Tim Whitfield with kudu, fondant potato and wilted spinach; and Babylonstoren Nebukadnesar 2019 by Klaas Stofberg paired with beef, crouton and onion ring.

Host estate Vrede en Lust was established in 1688 with current owners the Buys family – since 1996 – who are all actively involved in the day to day running. The estate is in the heart of the Cape winelands, perfectly positioned between Stellensbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl with luxury hospitality options, a tasting experience centre and a bistro.
