THE inaugural McGregor food and wine night market will take place in the ever-popular destination town of McGregor on February 25. The theme is Lantern Festival and will be hosted by the Fat Lady’s Arms, 46 Voortrekker Road, McGregor from 6.3opm until 9pm.

Events will include more than 20 food stalls offering cuisine from around the world, wine tasting and sales by local wineries, an oyster bar with DIY condiments, traditional country desserts, and a Thai Singha beer stall.

Event coordinator, chef Kurt Middleton, said of the festival, “We are excited to host festivals in our town this year that can showcase the diversity and talent of our local community. We hope this new festival and the future events will continue to tempt the tastebuds of the foodies out there.”

Most of the local eateries have banded together to showcase their respective uniqueness by creating some delicious creations. Chefs Tess Allendale and Christiaan Campbell are presenting a roasted lamb and flat bread with an array of middle easter condiments. The Dutch contingent will offer bitterballen and poffertjes. Red Earth free range chicken farm has a wonderful selection of street food style “chicken on a stick” with home-made marinades and dressings.

Local residents will be offering delectable items from home recipes to travel experiences from around the world, including exotic places like Croatia, Israel, China, India, Scotland, Germany and Mexico.

Create your own food and wine pairing with wineries from the Breede Valley. Quando Wines, Kleinhoekkloof, Arabella, Tanagra, Lords, De Kaap and McGregor’s own garagiste, Bemind, along with other wineries, will be offering tasting and sales.

Entrance is free and food and wine will be charged per stall.  Come and enjoy the hospitality that is unabashedly McGregor. For more information contact Kurt Middleton: [email protected]
