THE Boland’s beloved Waterblommetjie Festival is back on Saturday, 5 September. Bring family and friends to enjoy a day filled with laughter, wine and good food – and waterblommetjies.
This year Windmeul Kelder, Rhebokskloof Estate and Domaine Brahms outside Paarl will team up to celebrate this indigenous delicacy. Festivities start from 8am. Check the individual offerings of each location on here and make sure to visit as many as possible. Conveniently located within a radius of a few kilometres, it is easy to pop in at all three venues.
Windmeul Kelder is the original home of the festival and is hosting its popular farmer’s market. Enjoy a sumptuous farmer’s breakfast to set you up for the day. Fitness fans can enter the Run the Vine trial run (enter here). Indulge in a free waterblommetjiebredie and wine pairing between 10am and 2pm, and stock up on your favourite Windmeul wines. There will be a designated children’s’ area with jumping castle, face painting and balloon twisting.
Rhebokskloof is highlighting its superb wines such as the Rhebokskloof Shiraz with a delicious tapas and wine pairing. Pre-booking for this tasting is essential. The restaurant will serve a selection of waterblommetjie-inspired dishes. Try its special waterblommetjie margarita cocktail at Lume restaurant.
Domaine Brahms promises a festival of fun for the entire family. Book its famous buffet brunch or a themed high tea. The high tea costs R215 per person and must be booked by 28 August at brahms@iafrica.com. Visit the vintage car museum and showcase your own vintage car to win prizes.
