Indulge in a Heritage Day Feast at Backsberg

by Press Release 17 Sep 2019
by Press Release 17 Sep 2019

IS there any better way to celebrate National Heritage Day than spending it at one of South Africa’s finest wine farms? On September 24, honour our national treasures by wining and dining with Backsberg’s South African-inspired lunch menu and pairing platter.

Guests will be welcomed with a glass of Backsberg bubbly on arrival while encouraged to roam the estate’s beautiful gardens. When the tantalising scents that waft from the kitchen begin calling your name, get ready to settle in for a proudly South African three-course feast, including a traditional braai course or Pinotage vertical wine tasting accompanied by a pairing platter.

Those wanting to indulge in the full feasting pleasures at Backsberg can expect to dive into a starter buffet of homemade breads, pâtés and preserves before moving on to incredible mains that will satisfy even the most impressive braai masters. End your feasting on a sweet note with a delectable dessert selection made up of a scrumptious classic peppermint crisp tart, mixed berry panna cotta, a fresh fruit selection, and Sydney Back brandy pudding topped off with a side of custard.

Enjoy the spring air or stay cosy indoors – the choice is yours. Lunch begins at 12pm but should you want to work up an appetite with a little wine tasting, the tasting room will be open from 10am. This year, Backsberg is offering a unique Pinotage vertical wine tasting and pairing platter for the ultimate Heritage Day experience. The platter is made up of traditional roosterkoek with apricot jam and farm butter, a bobotie spring roll, sliced sirloin with a heavenly caramelised onion and cranberry relish, and a can’t-do-without koeksister with ginger, orange and cinnamon glaze.

Sounds utterly mouth-watering, doesn’t it? So, grab your friends and family and make the most of Heritage Day with Backsberg.
