Equilibrium at Creation

COINCIDING with the opening of the 2023 Hermanus FynArts Festival on 9 June, is the launch of the collaborative art exhibition titled Equilibrium at Creation Wines in the Hemel-en-Aarde valley. Created by the gifted sculptor, Nanette Ranger, and photographer and scientist, Sean Ranger, the works represent the pursuit of balance amidst the oscillating motion of a world in flux.

In response to the tumultuous tides of the present, Nanette’s sculptures serve as a symbolic reminder that dynamic balance is possible through connection, with each other and the natural world. The exquisite sculptures invite visitors out into the garden while simultaneously inviting wildlife into the garden by the use of bird feeders, bird baths and safe insect hotels that form part of the sculptural works.

Also in response to these times of instability and change, Sean’s photographic work draws inspiration from his immersive experiences of natural systems. They are, in a sense, reflections on the synergy within these systems. “There is an assumption that rational logic is in some way separate from the natural world, but I sense that there’s a deep connection between the two. I consider my thought processes to be intertwined with nature, and by recognising this connection, there is a sense of personal equilibrium,” he says.

Commenting on the exhibition, Creation creative director Carolyn Martin says the theme strongly resonates with the Creation philosophy of working in harmony with nature. “Living and working in the heart of the Cape Floral Kingdom, in one of the most biodiverse wine regions in the world, is as much a blessing as it is a responsibility,” she says. “While this means an unwavering commitment to preserving our precious natural heritage for generations to come, our commitment to sustainability is symbiotic, also encompassing the Creation team, our community and our clients.

“We are delighted to be curating the work of these two talented local artists. Our collaboration is aimed at offering our guests an experience which celebrates the connection between humanity and the beautifully complex world around us.”

The exhibition will be launched on Friday, 9 June at 10am in the Creation Tasting Room. For more information, or to book, click here.
