Cape Town attraction EARTHBOX to remain indefinitely

ALTHOUGH originally conceived as a temporary attraction, EARTHBOX has carved a special place in the hearts of its community. It’s also making waves with both local and international visitors – and recently caught the attention of the New York Times in its 36 Hours in Cape Town round up.

After some consideration, EARTHBOX has decided to extend its stay at Lourensford for the foreseeable future. As a standalone experience, EARTHBOX is a journey into the earth and an experience of the ancient world beneath our feet, but the first season also launched a popular programme of intimate live music concerts (Sunday Sessions) and a bespoke series of once-off culinary events with top chefs (Chef Series). Wellness events from soul celebrations to Secret Sunrise, yoga and pilates have also been a part of the success of the spring to autumn seasons.

Chef Ryan Cole is the Eat Out Woolworths Financial Services Chef of the Year for 2023 will be serving up a six-course fine dining feast at EARTHBOX on Friday 24 May. The limited-seating event is a one-of-a-kind underground and immersive dining experience. The executive chef and co-owner of Salsify at The Round House in Camps Bay, one of South Africa’s best fine dining restaurants, Cole is well known for his love of fishing and catching most of the seafood on his menu. He takes inspiration from the seasons, land and the sea when developing dishes, his menu aptly reflecting these elements in every course.

Tickets are limited and available from Webtickets for R3 500 per person. This includes welcome drinks and canapés and a six-course dinner with wine pairings.

Built during the winter of 2023, the wettest in a hundred years, EARTHBOX has already been weather tested. A system of drains and outlets, that were built-in beneath and around the structure, ensures the chamber stays dry. EARTHBOX will further winterise the experience and is set to continue creating cosy events worth leaving home during the cooler months.
