CAFÉ SOFI, the latest brand to launch in South Africa under Tashas Group’s banner, is a deeply personal project by Natasha and Savva Sideris, founders of the group. Created as an ode to their beloved mother, Sophia Electra, it’s a space animated by memory, layered with personal history, and inspired by a woman of beautiful contradictions: a conservative soul wrapped in eccentric packaging, an old-school romantic with an eclectic spirit.
At Café Sofi by tashas, food is a memory. The menu is a collection of Sophia’s favourite dishes, curated by culinary director Jill Okkers with Natasha and Savva. Uncomplicated and nostalgic, each dish is anchored in her love for classic comfort food – executed with elegance.
“Our menu is not trying to be overly fancy,” says Natasha. “It’s authentic, simple, and even a little edgy. Clean, pared back. Just the essentials on a plate.”
From wholesome breakfasts like spiced milk oats with maple syrup, or eggs and soldiers with a cheeky shot of whisky, to vibrant plates such as roasted butternut salad with whipped feta, or delicate crab cakes with citrus mayo, the offering balances simplicity with soul.
Highlights include the honey butter croissant – a baked croissant with whipped honey butter and mascarpone, the sweet toast of vanilla brioche brûléed with brown sugar and citrus, and the nostalgic cheesy toastie served with soup for dunking. Sandwiches like the fish bap or steak roll reinterpret everyday classics with warmth and flair.

Desserts, Sophia’s great love, are made for every day: tiramisu, grilled peaches with Amaretto, pineapple heaven cake. Specials, too, echo her quirks – toffee apples or Wilson 3X mints woven into treats.
“Food at Café Sofi is not just nourishment, it is comfort, memory, and love,” Savva adds.
