IN a quiet corner of the Klein Constantia tasting room, a unique ritual has begun. It’s called Vin de Constance Personalisation, an exceptional and innovative experience that invites guests not simply to taste the wine, but to leave their mark on it.
The Personalisation Corner is intimate and tactile. Brass tools rest beside bottles of molten wax. Wooden shelves still warm that hold books and centuries-old bottles Every detail speaks of craft — the sort that resists automation and insists on human touch. Here, the estate’s philosophy of “Traditionally Avant-Garde” comes alive: heritage interpreted through a contemporary lens, inviting each visitor to participate in the evolution of an icon.
For more than three centuries, Klein Constantia has been home to stories of craft, patience, and reinvention. Now, the estate opens a space that celebrates the meeting of past and present, where wax, bottle, and gesture converge into something timeless.
The idea is unique and the execution is deliberate. Each step of the experience has been thoughtfully crafted as part of a refined consumer journey. Visitors choose from a selection of vintages — including the newly released Vin de Constance 2022 — before selecting a wax colour drawn from the South African Flag palette: blue, green, red, white, gold, or black.
Each bottle is then finished by hand, sealed and stamped with the guest’s initials — a small act of authorship on one of the world’s most storied wines. It is an experience not only about customisation, and but about connection: between maker and drinker, between time and place.
First produced in the late 1700s and adored by Napoleon Bonaparte, Charles Baudelaire and Jane Austen, Vin de Constance has always occupied a space between art and legend. Its revival in 1986 reawakened one of the great stories of wine — and with the 2022 vintage, aged for 40 months and shaped by precision and patience, the narrative continues.
