Lanzerac’s Tasting Room open for the Winter Season

A FIRE which broke out in the early hours of May 28 caused immeasurable damage to the iconic Lanzerac Hotel, but it has not affected the operations of its winery division. Although the estate has been closed to the public since the incident, the tasting room has reopened its doors.

“Lanzerac is an iconic name in the wine industry and just as the brand has stood the test of time so has our team in the recent events. We are passionate about the brand and can’t wait to welcome visitors back to the estate to showcase our current range and a few exciting new vintage and range releases we will be launching later this year,” says Lanzerac Wine Estate general manager, Barend Barnard.

During the winter months, the tasting room will be open daily from 9am to 5pm, including public holidays. It offers visitors a warm winter ambience with its lush interior and cosy fireplace. It is the perfect venue to enjoy a glass of full-bodied red wine over the weekend when meeting up with friends. Daily cellar tours at 11am are complimentary with wine tastings and provide a behind-the-scenes-look of what goes on in the cellar to make that perfect bottle of Lanzerac wine. Following the cellar tour, three wine tasting options are available:

· Heritage Tasting at R150 a person for the four flagship wines
· Wine & Chocolate Tasting at R120 a person for five wines and five chocolates
· Premium Tasting at R70 a person for any five premium wines

Don’t leave without enquiring about how you can become a wine club member where you will be able to enjoy amazing discounts and offers on the wines in the range. Existing members will soon be receiving news on the latest not-to-be-missed offers.

A soup and wine evening takes place on June 29, with further dates at the ends of July and August. Enjoy a welcome drink on arrival 5.30 pm, followed by a tasting of premium wines in front of the fireplace. Before making your way home after the tasting, enjoy a hearty bowl of delicious soup and home baked breads. This will also be the perfect opportunity to stock up on wines which will be on sale at cellar door prices. Lanzerac is the home of the world’s first bottled Pinotage.

Space is limited to 30 guests per evening to ensure an intimate experience. The cost of R95 a person includes a welcome drink, the wine tasting and a light dinner of soup and bread afterwards. Your winter warmer evening will conclude by 8pm. Call Zelda Furstenburg on 021 886 5641 to reserve your place.
