Brookdale And Getwine fundraising initiative for Project Flamingo

0

BROOKDALE and Getwine have launched a fundraising initiative in aid of Project Flamingo, which will run throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month. During October 2022, Brookdale Estate and Getwine will pledge a R10 donation to Project Flamingo for every bottle of Brookdale Mason Road wines sold via the Getwine online platform.

Project Flamingo is a not-for-profit organisation that sets out to provide timely and holistic treatment, including life-saving catch-up surgery, for breast cancer patients who are dependent on public health. Project Flamingo changes the lives of cancer patients dependent on the public health care system where massive delays in treatment are often a harsh reality. Every donated Rand makes a difference, and every cent goes to more timely and holistic cancer care.

Project Flamingo volunteers, which include surgeons and anaesthetists, make their services and expertise available over weekends/afterhours at Groote Schuur and Tygerberg hospitals in Cape Town, as well as Livingstone hospital in Gqeberha and Cecilia Makiwane Hospital in East London, to patients in need of life-saving breast cancer surgery. The hard cost of each surgery is approximately R6000 in nursing and consumable fees. Driven by a group of passionate volunteers, Project Flamingo initiatives do not only include these life-saving catch-up surgeries, but also caring pamper packs to newly diagnosed cancer patients, food parcels to chemo patients in need, student education, cancer advocacy work and support to the diagnostic breast clinics at the various hospitals where they are active.

Buy Brookdale’s Mason Road wines on the Getwine website at the promotional price of R99 per bottle, sold in cases of six (R594 per case), with free delivery countrywide (orders of 12 bottles or more), and Brookdale and Getwine will donate R10 per bottle sold of the 2021 Mason Road Serendipity Rosé, Mason Road Chenin Blanc, and Mason Road Syrah to Project Flamingo (minimum order is six bottles/no mixed cases, valid for orders 1 – 31 October 2022 only).

Brookdale’s Mason Road wines commanded attention in Tim Atkin’s 2022 South Africa Special Report, when the 2021 Mason Road Syrah won a Medal of Excellence as the 2022 Best Value Red of the Year. Each of the three young wines in the current Mason Road range (2021 vintage) achieved a Tim Atkin score at 90 or more, but it was the Mason Road Syrah that led the pack with 92/100, followed by Mason Road Chenin Blanc and Mason Road Serendipity Rosé, both scoring 90.
