THE fourth Cab Franc Carnival will take place at the beautiful Vrede en Lust Estate in the centre of the Cape Winelands between Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek on Saturday 27 August from 11am to 4pm.

Cabernet Franc and red wine lovers will be treated to some of the best Cabernet Franc wines South Africa has to offer. As a single varietal, it has made strides over the past two decades and approximately 80 wineries in South Africa now produce a single varietal Cabernet Franc.

As one of the five wine varietals used to make Bordeaux-style blends, Cabernet Franc has aromas which include cassis, tobacco, raspberry, pepper and violets. Many people also pick up a hint of fynbos on the nose. This varietal pairs excellent with all cuts of red meat, roasts, game and beef stews, but can easily be enjoyed on its own or even with pork or chocolate desserts.

Wineries participating at the carnival Avontuur, Cape Chamonix, Druk my Niet, De Morgenzon, Doolhof, De Meye, Holden Manz, Le Pommier, Morgenster, Ormonde, Onderkloof, Raats, Rainbow’s End, Stellenrust, The Garajeest, Thor Vintners, Villiera, Vrede en Lust, and Zorgvliet.

Tickets are available on Quicket and cost R300 per person. This includes entry to the carnival, parking, a branded crystal wine glass, food voucher to be redeemed at Lust Bistro at Vrede en Lust on the day, comfortable seating, live music and tasting of all the wines on show.
