AN ocean feast of 14 events has been confirmed for the 2023 Wavescape Surf & Ocean Festival presented by Vans in Cape Town from 2 to 25 March.
Organisers have confirmed the South African premiere of Birth of the Endless Summer at The Galileo Open Air Cinema in Kirstenbosch Gardens. Other anticipated documentaries will be screened in Scarborough, Khayelitsha and in Cape Town at the Labia Theatre.
Eight ocean gurus have signed up to entertain and inform at Slide Night with snappy 10 minute talks at the prestigious Centre for the Book in Cape Town. The flagship ocean evening takes place Wednesday 15 March. Speakers include Cormac Cullinan, who stopped seismic surveys off the East Coast, and marine scientist Dr Koebraa Peters, who uncovers an alien invasion.
The Blue Ocean Masterclass focuses on aerial footage of the ocean, and includes discussion about regulations, drone technology, skills required and equipment. Gyrocopter pilot Jean Tresfon joins other experts in this popular filmmaking workshop.
The underwater cleanup with Beach Co-op off Jager’s Walk in Fish Hoek will this year be followed by a chat, while literally sitting in the ocean. This year, the Board Meeting day event again takes place at Jack Black’s Taproom, where surfers will be able to swap or buy each other’s surfboards. There will also be other fun activities for adults and children, from demonstrations by sustainable surf products and eco-conscious brands to children’s activities, set to the musical vibes of DJ Roastin’ Records.
