Endeavour, The Larkins, Ainsley Harriott on BritBox in December

CRITICALLY acclaimed police drama Endeavour and 1950s-set The Larkins take pride of place in the new and exclusive BritBox December line-up, plus there’s plenty more tasty festive goodies to binge on besides the usual turkey, roasties and Yorkshire pudding.

Shaun Evans returns as a young Endeavour Morse in the eighth season of Endeavour alongside Roger Allam, in the prequel to the long-running detective series Inspector Morse, also set in Oxford. Travel back to 1971 and see the young detective grappling with his personal demons in the latest season of this engrossing period drama, from December 2.

If you adored The Darling Buds of May (three seasons are also available to binge on BritBox), you’ll fall hard for whimsical comedy-drama The Larkins (from December 9), a new adaptation of the much-loved book – plus a Christmas special.

H.E. Bates’s novel The Darling Buds of May and the 1990s TV series of the same name have reached near-cult status in Britain. This six-part adaptation is a fresh take on the Larkin family, set to capture all its predecessor’s warmth, charisma and optimism for a modern generation.

Written by Simon Nye (The Durrells), The Larkins stars Bradley Walsh (Coronation Street, Doctor Who) and Joanna Scanlan (The Thick of It, Notes on a Scandal) as working-class parents Pop and Ma Larkin, who are raising their six children in the Kentish countryside in the 1950s. Look out for Sabrina Bartlett (who played opera singer Siena Rosso in Bridgerton) as the beautiful Mariette – the role that catapulted Catherine Zeta-Jones to fame 30 years ago. Sit back, relax and enjoy this charming dramedy set in the Garden of England.

BritBox also brings you a range of festive family viewing this December, including clever ways to spice up your holiday table from celebrity chef Ainsley Harriott; Ainsley’s Barbecue Bible, Ainsley’s Big Cook Out, and Ainsley’s Gourmet Express land on December 2.

In his Barbecue Bible, Ainsley places a new twist on outdoor cooking and dining. From “The Great British Barbie” to recipes from Australia and Jamaica, he gives viewers fresh ideas for quick, easy, tasty meals to make on coals. And of course, no globe-trotting barbecue show would be complete without an episode on the classic South African braai – complete with mouth-watering sosaties and other rainbow cuisine.

BritBox is available to stream via the web, on Android and Apple mobile/tablets, FireTV, AppleTV, Samsung Smart TV and LG Smart TV. Enjoy one week’s free trial, sign up at R99.99 per month or R999.99 for 12 months, and register for email updates here.
