Sunday afternoon vibes at Leopard’s Leap with The Parlotones

THE PARLOTONES, one of South Africa’s most successful and love bands, will play songs from their Unplugged(ish) album Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue, as well as some classics, at Leopard’s Leap in Franschhoek on Sunday, March 8.

Says front man Kahn Morbee, “I’ve been to Franschhoek many times. I love it; it has a certain Zen to it where the realities of the world kinda melt away. Forget the bucket list, just give me the bucket filled with your converted grapes.”

May I recommend the 2019 Sauvignon Blanc, as the perfect late summer afternoon tipple? It’s refreshing and herbaceous, and according to the tasting notes it pairs well with herbs (obviously), goat’s cheese, and (according to the press drop with the release last year) nougat, asparagus, and tomato and feta dippy spread from Woolies. Those full fat soft goat’s cheese with honey crumbles they sent were flipping amazing (also Woolies), so keep those in mind for future picnics. Other pairing options include “snippets of poetry, lawn picnics, long weekends and live music”, so you’ll have this gig covered with a bottle or two.

The Sauvignon Blanc as well as other wines from Leopard’s Leap can be added to cocktails (recipes on the website), and they also make de-alcoholised Natura Classic White and Red.

The sundowner event begins at 4pm, so head through a bit earlier to visit the tasting room for an informal introduction to the versatile range of Leopard’s Leap wines. Take your time and laze over wine cocktails on the veranda with its mountain and vineyard views.

The food focus at Leopard’s Leap is on relaxing, family-orientated enjoyment. Juicy cuts from the rotisserie and seasonal sides and salads on the harvest table ensure a delicious lunch experience. Delicious picnic boxes, nachos and pizzas, Leopard’s Leap wines, Natura de-alcoholised white and red and other drinks will be available for the concert. You are not allowed to bring your own wine or other alcohol, or picnics. One lucky Eat Play Drink Cape Town reader, however, can win two tickets and a picnic hamper for two. Head on over to the Facebook page to enter.
