BRITBOX INTERNATIONAL is expanding its long-running relationship with BAFTA to become the exclusive home of the EE BAFTA Film Awards in eight countries, streaming the awards live from London on Sunday, February 19 across the US, Canada, Australia, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, as well as SA.

The awards, the biggest night in British film, celebrates the best of British and international film talent and will take place at London’s Royal Festival Hall. Richard E Grant will host the ceremony and Alison Hammond will host a new BAFTA Studio from the Royal Festival Hall as part of an expanded show format for 2023. The red carpet will be hosted by Ali Plumb and Vick Hope.

South Africa is strongly represented at this year’s awards with Living, directed by Cape Town’s Oliver Hermanus (The Endless River, Moffie), nominated in four categories, including Outstanding British Film, Leading Actor for Bill Nighy, Best Adapted Screenplay for novelist Kazuo Ishiguro and EE Rising Star Award for Aimee Lou Wood.

Other February highlights on the streaming platform include a new and exclusive BritBox original, Make It At Market, now available, in which you can see how to turn a hobby into a business. Dominic Chinea from The Repair Shop works with a team of business and craft experts to help a group of budding entrepreneurs fulfil their potential and make a living from their crafting talents.

Filmed in the heart of the Leicestershire countryside, the show sees amateur hobbyists facing a number of challenges that will determine if they have what it takes to turn their sideline into a business in the real world while shaping their business plans. Follow the inspiring journeys of an eclectic mix of amateur crafters drawn from across the UK, from potters, blacksmiths and weavers to woodworkers, jewellers and furniture makers, each a passionate maker extraordinaire with a desire to change their life.

The third and final season of Happy Valley lands on February 9 (seasons one and two are also available). Adored by viewers and critics alike, Sally Wainwright’s multi-BAFTA-winning hit features Sarah Lancashire (Coronation Street, Last Tango in Halifax) in her BAFTA-winning role as Sergeant Catherine Cawood for the last time.

Season three sees Catherine discovering the remains of a gangland murder victim in a drained reservoir, sparking a chain of events that unwittingly leads her straight back to Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton – Grantchester, McMafia). A number of Happy Valley favourites also return for this curtain call, plus newcomers Oliver Huntingdon (The Rising), Jack Bandeira (Sex Education), Alec Secareanu (God’s Own Country), and Anthony Flanagan (Gentleman Jack).

In Whistsable Pearl (February 16), the beautiful English seaside town of Whitstable is home to Pearl Nolan, who divides her time between serving up tasty seafood in her restaurant and solving a range of crimes washed in by the tide, in this engaging British mystery series with lashings of small-town charm.

Pearl (Kerry Godliman – After Life) is chef-proprietor of the Whitstable Pearl restaurant, which she runs alongside her son Charlie (Rohan Nedd – Doctor Who), and her mother Dolly (Frances Barber – Silk and The Chelsea Detective, also on BritBox) but, eager for a fresh challenge, she is also the owner of a new detective agency. Finally putting her long-ago police training to good use, Pearl’s frustrations with local policing bring her into conflict with DCI Mike McGuire (Howard Charles – The Three Musketeers, Alex Rider), recently relocated from London, who she finds infuriating. Yet somehow, she can’t seem to stay away from him…

Julie Wassmer’s much-loved novels are brought to the screen for the first time by iconic Norwegian filmmaker Øystein Karlsen (ExitLilyhammer) and the award-winning producers of hit detective series Marcella in this engaging six-parter.
