Exciting new pop-up EDGE at Mount Nelson this summer

THE Mount Nelson, a Belmond Hotel, is set to become a temporary home to Edge this summer, hosting a season of pop-up dinners from 7 December to April 2023, 7pm-11pm. Captained by young gun Vusi Ndlovu, in partnership with Absie Pantshwa, Edge seeks to celebrate all that makes Africa so remarkable as it takes over the 60-seater Oasis Bistro. With a focus on underutilised ingredients and progressive techniques, and inspired by recipes passed down over generations, Vusi and his team are looking to bring their celebration of deliciousness in Africa right to the centre of the Mother City.

Edge will serve as a canvas for local food and wine heroes, with plenty of interesting stories to tell. The menu, conceptualised by Vusi and inspired by his own heritage, will be an ever-changing curation of dishes that highlight indigenous ingredients, reimagined in a contemporary, simple and respectful way.

The dishes will pay homage to Vusi’s past experience and curiosity, as well as the rich history of this great continent. Expect to find a mouthwatering snapshot of Africa on a plate, with a strong focus on cooking over flames. Guests can expect Ujeqe noMsobho, which is a steamed bun traditionally eaten with hands and served with beef essence. A broccoli dish, charred and cooked in a groundnut sauce with roasted peanuts, is dressed in a miso made from bambara nuts.

The wine list will feature an interesting rotation of independent producers and niched boutique wineries. The drinks offering is topped off with a uniquely curated cocktail list, developed especially for the Edge team, with their indigenous spirit in mind.

Reservations for dinners are open and can be made here.
