MOUNT NELSON, a Belmond Hotel, is introducing two new weekly events: a series of Sunset Soundscapes on Saturdays, and jazz brunches with unlimited bubbly on Sundays.
Food and music go together beautifully. Add balmy sunshine and warm breezes on outdoor terraces, and you have sensory heaven. Which is why Mount Nelson’s two new midsummer initiatives are simply unmissable.
Subsequent Saturdays see an eclectic array of musicians: a four-piece classical string quartet playing light classical compositions; Hassan’Adas, who fuse original African rhythms with global influences; electric cello player Carol Thorns; multi-talented saxophonist Don Vino playing smooth jazz hits with his band; and stunningly talented Lynelle Kenned and Stefan Lombard, a versatile vocalist and gifted pianist.
Or choose to kick back, relax and let the music stir your senses as you indulge in a Sunset Picnic. The enticing selection includes charcuterie, smoked trout, spice-fried chicken, beef frikkadels, Cape winelands cheese, strawberries and cream, and so much more.
At 11.30am on 20 February, Mount Nelson hosts its first fabulous Sunday jazz brunch, with the option of unlimited bubbly. Be entertained by the irrepressible rhythms of the legendary Buddy Wells Trio with saxophone, drums and piano as you relish chef Rudi’s incredible brunch menu.
If you want Rudi’s recommendations, opt for slapjack with banana and bacon, special eggs Royale with avocado on hash brown and salmon roe, and finish with crêpes, ice cream, nuts and chocolate sauce.
The icing on the cake is unlimited Boschendal Brut and Boschendal Brut Rosé, highly acclaimed South African sparkling wines made to the Méthode Cap Classique.
The extra layer of icing on the cake is that the Children’s Centre will be open, meaning brunch guests can drop their little ones off with a professional childminder and enjoy a guilt-free, gastronomic, musical feast.
