Bouchard Finlayson food and wine event at The Marine

THE MARINE is rolling out the red carpet this winter and will welcome diners to the season’s first Food and Wine event on Saturday June 5, 2021.

Newly appointed executive chef Rudolph Blaauw will be making his gourmet event debut at Hermanus’s favourite Small Luxury Hotels of the World property, teaming up with Bouchard Finlayson’s talented winemaker Chris Albrecht. Chef Blaauw brings with him extensive experience gained at Relais & Châteaux properties Ellerman House in Cape Town and Delaire Graff Estate’s famed Indochine Restaurant.

The gourmet event will be presented in The Pavilion Restaurant, where its edgy black-and-white, roaring 1920s décor will provide a backdrop to an experience that will thrill food lovers and oenophiles alike.

The first course, tandoori salmon, burnt cucumber, banana yogurt, coriander chutney and pani puri, will be perfectly paired with Bouchard Finlayson Kaaimansgat Chardonnay 2019, followed by rooikrans smoked duck breast, confit duck samosa, wild mushrooms, watercress, blackberry and duck jus enjoyed with the show-stopping Bouchard Finlayson Galpin Peak Pinot Noir 2019.

After a light sorbet of apple and fennel, springbok loin will be served with butternut sorghum, spekboom pickle, crispy kale, sago and num num, enjoyed with Bouchard Finlayson Hannibal 2018, a unique and intriguing blend of Italian varietals Sangiovese, Pinot noir, Nebbiolo, Shiraz, Mourvédre and Barbera.

Phantom Of The Forest ends the evening on a deliciously interesting note served with brioche, charred broccoli, pear, quince terrine, hazelnuts and Bouchard Finlayson Aurum Straw 2018, followed by tea or coffee.

The Marine’s highly anticipated food and wine dinners are gastronomic experiences that showcase world-class cuisine paired with some of the Hemel-en-Aarde’s most loved wines. Bookings are open for four events as part of the 2021 Food & Wine Pairing series: Bouchard Finlayson (June 5), Domaine Des Dieux (June 26), Hamilton Russell (July 31), and Creation (August 28). The cost of R545 per person includes a welcome drink with canapés, the four-course dinner with wine pairing, and tea and coffee. Special accommodation offers are available to diners who would like to spoil themselves with an overnight stay or a staycation weekend in the charming seaside town.
